We are passionate about creating simply delicious chocolates made to the highest quality, in Melbourne, Australia. We are committed to providing luxury chocolates for any occasion, at affordable prices and without compromising on quality.

History

1985 - The Beginnings

In 1985, David Grisold opened a small chocolate store in Diamond Creek, Victoria, with a vision to manufacture premium chocolates using the world’s finest ingredients, backed by outstanding customer service.

David was soon joined by sister Joanne and brother John. By 1987, their success and the growing demands of the business prompted a move to a larger premises and shopfront on Waterdale Road, North Ivanhoe, leading to the birth of Chocolatier Australia. In 1991, their brother Mark joined the fold to lead production operations, reinforcing the strong family foundation.

As years passed, the business went from strength to strength, and Joanne’s husband, Bruce, joined to provide support with further expansion. The factory underwent several upgrades at the Waterdale Road address before relocating to a purpose-built factory on Bamfield Road, West Heidelberg, in the early 2000s.

As the business matured, it naturally evolved into two distinct arms: the wholesale production side, operating from the Heidelberg West factory, and the bespoke, customer-focused retail experience centred at the Waterdale Road shop.

2006

Change

Joanne and Bruce purchased the store outright from the family business. Together, they enhanced the business by creating a warm and inviting experience, offering premium couverture chocolate treats and drinks, with a relaxed outdoor seating area.

2017

Chocilo Melbourne

A new chapter began when Jo and Bruce rebranded to Chocilo Melbourne. While they continued to offer beloved Chocolatier Australia chocolates, they also introduced their own bespoke creations, handcrafted with care in-store.

Joanne, Bruce, and the dedicated Chocilo Melbourne team love welcoming local Melburnians, curious tourists, and fellow chocolate enthusiasts into the shop. With a thriving online store, they’re also proud to share their passion with loyal customers across Australia—and are deeply grateful for the continued support from chocolate lovers near and far.

2025 Onwards

Looking ahead, Chocilo Melbourne continues to evolve while staying true to its roots. After 2025, Bruce and Joanne have pivoted their focus to growing the Chocilo product range, offering unique, luxury chocolate products to both in-store and online customers, as well as their wholesale, hospitality, and corporate customers across Australia.

While beloved Chocolatier Australia chocolates remain a key part of the offering, the Chocilo range now stands proudly at the heart of the store’s identity. 

With new flavours, seasonal collections, and expanded gifting options on the horizon, Chocilo Melbourne is excited to continue delighting customers, both in-store and online, with chocolates that celebrate craftsmanship, community, and the joy of sharing something truly special.
